AGARTALA, June 23 (TIWN): The state Transport Department commissioned all District Transport Officers and concerned Motor Vehicles Inspectors (MVI) to conduct a survey across the state to figure out requirements of further communication facilities in areas less covered or uncovered under transport facilities.
Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat here this evening, Transport Minister Dey said that the assigned officials were asked to submit a report from the survey in all distant areas of the state by August this year. The state had largescale expansion of roadways connecting state, district, sub-divisional headquarters recently, Dey added.
The survey would try to figure out types of vehicles plying in concerned areas and further necessity of vehicle density alongwith type of vehicle, the minister said.
The Department also laid stress on awarding fitness certificates to very old vehicles. District Transport Officers (DTO) would be tagged alongwith Motor Vehicles Inspectors (MVI) for checking condition of vehicles before awarding them fitness certificates. Special stress would be laid on the school buses.
“We have received good response in the special drive in bringing school buses under the cover of accountable checking”, Dey said.
He added that all driving schools, smoke testing centers would be subjected to more rigorous inspection in the coming days.
