Agartala, June 23 (TIWN): Tripura is all set to implement fresh project on energy efficient lighting with an endeavour to prevent the wastage of power and to improve the overall energy efficiency in the street lighting system.
A meeting was conducted for Discom capacity building on Demand Side Management (DSM) and DSM-Energy Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP) at the Agartala Municipal Council conference hall, here today. The meeting was organised by the Tripura State Electricity Corporation limited (TSECL) and sponsored by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, New Delhi in association with Agartala Municipal Council (AMC).
“Under this fresh project, all the street lights will be changed to LED lamp. For that a survey will be conducted across the state including city, Nagar Panchayat and TTADC areas. After that the project will be implemented by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power (GOI), New Delhi”, said Secretary of Power, Finance and Urban Development Department- Ashutosh Jindal over telephone today.
The Chairperson and Managing Director of TSECL S K Roy in his presidential address asserted that the Agartala Municipal Council has to pay for the street lights only, confirmed over telephone today. “A Memorandum of Understanding will be signed in between the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and state government for the implementation of energy efficient street lighting project”, he added.
According to a presentation screened by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), the main objectives of the project are; substantial reduction in energy consumption of the street light system, considerable reduction of electricity bills for street lighting of Municipal bodies/ Nagar Panchayats, reduction in evening peak load and to provide better and adequate lighting levels compared to existing system.
Dr Prafullajit Sinha, Mayor of AMC, the Director of TSECL- MK Chowdhury, Director of UDD- Ranjit Majumder, Senior Manager of EESL, New Delhi- Tarun Tayal including many other delegates attended the meeting.
