Agartala, June 17 (TIWN): Alarmed at the upward trend in the crime against women, the All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA) would launch a massive protest in the state to address the menace.
Speaking to media, AIDWA state unit Secretary Jharna Das Baidya today said “The atrocities on women have been increasing alarmingly with every passing day. It will not be possible to thwart the problem without launch a massive protest.”
Before the three-tier Panchayat election, the AIDWA would begin organize a massive protest programme in Nagar Panchayat, Municipal Council and tribal areas of the state, she said.
The different clubs and social organizations would also be involved in the protest rallies. As a part of the awareness cum protest programme, a Jhata rally would also be organized. Besides, poster and leaflet etc would be distributed among the people to make people aware about the problem, said Baidya.
During the protest programme, the AIDWA would try to aware the people about the social values to stop the atrocities on women, domestic violence and different narcotic addictions. It views that different narcotic and alcoholic addictions are one of the main reasons behind the domestic violence, she said.
She added the state government assured to make a special budget for the women in the state and to provide the preference to the women so that the women can get out from the inhuman torment.
The assistant secretary of AIDWA- Krishna Rakshit and the state secretary of DYFY- Amal Chakraborty also attended the press conference.
