Agartala, June 15: Tripura CPI (M) general secretary Bijan Dhar today said that the party is anxious at the absolute majority bagged by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said that despite all verbal and poll assurances of development, the Modi-sarkar would eventually lead to polarization of the country on religious grounds.
Speaking to reporters in the sidelines of an official press briefing here on Sunday, the CPI (M) leader said that the party’s central committee is equally concerned about the growing trends of allowing foreign corporate players in the nation’s internal economy and its aggressive religious polarization.
Asked about future strategy of the left parties to tackle the alleged communalization of politics, he said that CPI (M) and all its left allies would work to tackle the communal forces in whatever little presence it has left across the country.
Dhar further said that the CPI (M) central committee discussed about reasons behind the massive victory of BJP and concluded that relentless corruption, nepotism, bad governance etc resulted in frustration among the people, a chance aptly harvested by the saffron camp. “We expected bad result from Congress but BJP’s results were unexpected”, he said.
CPI (M) recorded over 87 thousand party members after end of membership collection process in Tripura this year with a growth rate of 4.22 percent. The party ousted 132 party members in the last twelve months for anti-party activities and charges of corruption or other anti-social activities. A total of 4.3 percent party members from the previous year was dropped out from the membership renewal process this year.
