AGARTALA, Nov 6 (TIWN): Rain in November month casing massive damages at Howrah river bank as Govt. has literally failed to launch its “Save Howrah” project which was announced in 2015. For plantation near Howrah river bank AMC received huge funds, but it remained without any affect. The report till 3 PM of Sunday it has been informed that already 12 families at Chanpur area had lost their homes when over flowing water of Howrah river hit there. Govt has launched a relief camp at there, but the condition of the relief camp is very bad. Around 70 people have taken shelter at Chanpur school and passing hours sitting on the school’s floor amidst mosquito, no proper sitting or food arrangement yet. However, Assembly Dy Speaker Pabitra Kar and SDM visited the spot in the morning, and now Govt will look after the fooding and lodging of them. The situation is critical there as many children were suffering from hunger till middle of the day. Few local volunteers were however found there.

The number of refugee may increase more as Howrah river bank is taking dangerous shape. On the other hand when a man was crossing the river he died due to the over flow of water. This man has been identified as Biswajit Dhar, resident of Bhati Abhoynagar.

This flood warning was given time to time to the Govt of Tripura but the “ Save Howrah River” remains merely a slogan without any action plan or new thoughts.

The slogan was raised on the occasion of 65th Van Mahatsov celebrated at Jirania, where lakhs of taxpayers’ money  was spent for the celebration. Chief minister Manik Sarkar himself was present in the programme. From there Sarkar raised the slogan for saving  the river, which is the main source of water for the state ‘s capital. In the programme, he announced that the river will be protected from dying.

After the announcement, it was understood at least now the administration will take measures for saving the river. But, sthe main river of the state has become only a slogan.

If AMC would take seriously the plantation plan then the situation would not be so worst today.

Tension is there for more number flood refugees’ addition at that  relief camp as the water level is increasing at Howrah with the inconsistent rain.
