Agartala, June 4 (TIWN): Lok Adalat will be held on June 9 and 10 for resolving disputes relating to revenue and bank, said Abhishek Singh, District Magistrate and Collector of west Tripura. He said around 350 pending cases of three sub division – Mohanpur, Jirania and Sadar will likely to be resolved during two days of Lok Adalat which will held at west district office.
Mr. Singh said that Lok Adalats plays a key role in the alternative dispute resolution system and had become popular, which was reflected in the quantum jump in the number of cases received and being settled. However, he also laid emphasis on generating more awareness at the grassroots level
He stated that the National Legal Services Authority had recommended that 19 different types of disputes could be settled in Lok Adalats.They included criminal compoundable cases, transport cases, matrimonial issues, civil cases, bank recovery, debt recovery tribunal cases, revenue cases, cases pertaining to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, electricity and water bills, sales tax, income tax, Forest Act, railway claims and disaster compensation.
The ultimate objective of the district administration was to provide speedy justice to aggrieved parties, particularly those from below poverty line families, backward classes, SC and ST groups, at virtually no expense, through amicable settlement of cases, added Mr. Singh.
