AGARTALA, May 29 (TIWN): After registering convincing win in Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the ruling CPM looks set to rout opposition Congress and others in the upcoming three-tier panchayat election too.Even as preparation of electoral rolls for the three-tier panchayat is in full swing at the block level, the opposition parties- Congress, Trinamool Congress and BJP are in deep sleep.Reports from various Blocks reveal many bogus voters find place in the draft electoral rolls and there is no move to rectify the enormous errors in the rolls.
Of late, PCC has demanded extension of revision schedule and accordingly the state election commission has agreed on the demand. As per the new schedule, filing of claims and objections on the draft voters’ list would be allowed upto May 29 instead of May 27 while disposal would be done on May 31 in stead of May 30.
So far, the opposition parties have failed to put up ‘resistance’ in the way of cleaning the bogus voters found place in the draft rolls. And if voters’ list is not prepared properly , the oppositions would be routed once again at the hand of the mighty CPM.
According to the draft rolls, the number of voters stands at 11, 06,820 while the final electoral rolls would be published on June 5 next.
Elections would be conducted in 6,111 seats across 3,385 panchayat constituencies under 591 gram panchayats and 419 seats in 35 panchayat samities. Hundred-and-sixteen seats in eight zilla parishads would go to the polls to elect leaders for the next five years.
The three-tier panchayat elections are scheduled to be held in July though the state election commission is yet to declare the poll schedule.
