Agartala, May 27 (TIWN): Jitendra Chowdhury who won the East Tripura Lok Sabha constituency with huge margin today left for Delhi to take oath as Member of Parliament, party sources confirmed here today.
Though it was not confirmed when he will take oath as MP, all the newly elected MPs were requested to remain present in the national capital at the earliest.
Earlier, Mr. Chowdhury contested from East Tripura Lok Sabha constituency on Left Front ticket and won the election with massive mandate. To take the job of MP, he had already resigned as Minister of Manik Sarkar led Left Front government and then tendered his resignation letter as MLA.
Sankar Prasad Dutta, who won the election from prestigious West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency with huge margin also left for Delhi this evening to take oath as MP.
After winning the elections, both Chowdhury and Dutta said they would raise the issues related to people of the state. However, it is to be seen how far they could be successful in the Parliament as the Left’s strength has dwindled to all-time low raising alarm bell among left parties.
After the new government under Narendra Modi assumed office, the Lok Sabha secretariat wants to finish oath taking ceremony for newly elected MPs by first week of June.
