Agartala, Sep 20 (TIWN / IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday organised a rally in Agartala, demanding among other things that the distortion of history be stopped in school curriculum in Left-ruled Tripura.
"The Left Front government in Tripura while preparing the syllabuses for the schools under the state government is distorting the facts of the Indian history, freedom struggle and freedom fighters," BJP's state President Biplab Deb told reporters here.
He said: "They are avoiding the famed freedom fighters of India and highlighting the Marxist leaders of other countries in the school curriculum. The state government on purpose also overlooked the historical happenings of freedom struggle."
An eight-member delegation led by state party leaders Arun Kanti Bhowmik, Subal Bhowmik, Jishnu Debbarma besides Biplab Deb after the march met Chief Secretary Yashpal Singh and submitted a memorandum on their 12-point demands.
The BJP also demanded a probe by the CBI into the illegal activities of the Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) and chit fund organisations in Tripura, a pay-scale to the state government employees at par with the central government employees, increase in wages under the rural job guarantee scheme (MGNREGA), and action against rising crime against women and children.
"Unauthorised NBFCs and chit fund organisations have robbed thousands of crores of rupees from over 14 lakh depositors in Tripura while the Left Front government has remained silent," Deb alleged.
