Agartala, May 19 (TIWN): Salary of Tea Workers has been increased up to 25 percent. The decision has come up today in a tripartite meeting. Since last few months, Tripura Tea Workers Union and Tripura Cha Mazdur Union both submitted representation demanding revision of Pay Scales of Staff and Sub-Staff employees.
Accordingly Labour Commissioner Sambu Nama conveyed two consecutive tripartite meeting on 6th & 30th January respectively. But the employers were not present. Lastly on 19th May another meeting was conveyed for the same purpose. After all efforts on behalf of the labour department, four representatives of employers including Chairman of Tea Association of India (TAI) attended this meeting. Mr Kanu Ghosh, Secretary of Tea Workers Union & Norodh Baran Das, Secretary General of Tripura Cha Mazdur Union were also present. After prolonged discussion in presence of the labour Commissioner, the owners agreed to increase 25 percent of existing salary with effect from 1st December 2013. The meeting also dissolve with the decision that, arrear accrued from 1st December 2013 to 30th April 2014 shall be paid within 31st December of this year. Benefit of the new pay scale will be made on the salary of May this year. According to the Commissioner Mr Sambu Nama, this agreement shall be valid up to 30th November 2015. This is to be noted here that, almost thirteen thousand workers are involved with 52 no. of tea garden in Tripura.
