Khowai, May 19 (TIWN): A pregnant house-wife was allegedly hanged to death by her husband and in-laws over dowry demand at Basanti Tilla area of Chebri under Khowai sub-division, today. Later, police have arrested her husband and in-laws, today.
Barnali Debnath, daughter of Dulal Debnath, a resident of Gouranga Tilla got married with Abhijit Debnath, a resident of Basanti Tilla area of Chebri few months back. The marriage was concluded as per the social customs accordingly. On the time of marriage, Barnali’s family provided Rs 1, 30, 000 in cash including furniture and jewelleries.
Of late, her father-in-law Dhirendra Debnath called up her father Dulal Debnath and threatened him to be preparing for her daughter’s death for not offering the cash, last night. Later, Barnali’s father-in-law informed to her father at around 10 am, this morning that she committed suicide by hanging. After receiving the information of death her parents went there and found Barnali’s body was hanging. Several injury marks were found in her body. Her right leg was fractured.
Then, immediately her body was taken to the Khowai sub-divisional hospital including her husband and in-laws. But the on duty doctors declared her as dead. For that, all were excited in the hospital. As a result excitement, Abhijit Debnath (husband), Dhirendra Debnath (father-in-law) and Lila Debnath (mother-in-law) were allegedly beaten up severely. After the post-mortem her body was handed over to her father.
However, after receiving the information police rushed to the spot and arrested the husband including in-laws immediately. A specific case has been registered against them at the Khowai police station and police is investigating the matter.
