AGARTALA,May19 (TIWN):They were 'excited', 'overwhelmed' and looking forward to 'learn' -- for the first-time two parliamentarians from Tripura, their entry into the citadel of democracy , heralded the emergence of a challenge to deliver on the promises they have made to the people.
Jitendra Chaudhury, CPI (M) Party Member of Parliament, who was also minister for two decades said,”The experience will be very exciting and I am looking forward to working for my constituency and also for the country,"
"People are facing problems due to inadequate connectivity with rest of the country. I will try to focus on this problem. I will also try to improve primary health care and drinking water facilities, in my constituency," he said.
The newly-elected MPs are scheduled to leave for the national capital on May 25 for the oath-taking ceremony.
CPI-M candidate in Tripura East (ST) constituency Jitendra Chaudhury trounced his nearest Congress rival Sachitra Debbarma by a margin of 4,84,358 votes. Chaudhary got 6,23,771 votes while Debbarma got 139413 votes.
In Tripura West constituency, CPI-M candidate Shankar Prasad Datta trounced his nearest Congress rival Arunoday Saha by 5, 03, 486. Datta received 6, 71, 665 votes while his rival Saha got 1, 68,179 votes.
