AGARTALA, Sep 8 (TIWN): The increasing clashes among the student unions in Tripura Colleges have become a matter of concern for students, guardians. On Friday, Sept 9, TMCP called strike in MBB College, which has increased the tension more as the common students, teachers are now afraid about what to do on that day---whether to go to College or not.

On the other hand SFI also called strike in 3 Colleges MBB, BBMC, Women’s College to flop the strike of TMC. In a rally called by TMCP on Thursday  they also ensured the strike. Thus 3 Colleges classes to be halted due to both union’s strike. However, TMCP has called strike in only MBB College as the problem was held there.

However, Tripura Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty on Thursday morning couldn’t ensure anything about the smooth functioning of College for Sep 9. “Let the student think whether they will come to Colleges or not. Let them decide what is good for them”, said Chakraborty. “Our duty is to look after the law and order”, he added.

Stressing on the issue of continuous Student Union clashes at various schools, colleges across the state he said that a section of political organizations are trying to violate the environment of Education in state.

Asking Minister Tapan Chakraborty whether student unions would be banned from the Colleges, he said, “Student Unions must be there from school level. Student Unions are parts of Education from School life in Democracy by which they fight, protest and raise various demands”.  “It’s actually a part of Education”, he added.

TIWN further asked the Minister what about the students who are not involved in any political organization, but afraid of what to do on Friday, as 2 different ideology’s pressures are now on them from both the opposite unions. What step Govt. has taken to ensure the security on that day?--- Minister said, ‘Govt. will look after the security on that day and about the pressure on the students, it’s fully upto the students whether they will come or skip college on Friday, whose ideology they like !

However, Minister also said Trinamool students are always welcome to fight in College-election. If they have confidence to take the challenge they must go ahead for election. The College student are eligible enough to think who is good for them, and accordingly they will give their votes. However, Minister further laughs at TMCP, knowing about TMCP’s determination ‘not to stand in election’ and mocks at them saying, apart from creating problems they can not do anything in reality.

It’s to be mentioned here that on Sep 6 a clash occurred in Tripura’s most renowned Govt College Maharaja Bir Bikram College at Agartala, which resulted pathetically, with many injured due to the mayhem created by both the unions.  After 2 TMCP students injured on that day, the TMCP outsider members rushed to the MBB College compound. Then another clash occurred between police and political unions, and also allegation against MBB Outpost O/C Sukanta Sen Chowdhury raised for calling a student ‘Son of Sheikh’.

With all these TMCP has called for strike on Sept 9, which has created tension as another major clash may develop on that day.

However SP West Abhijit Saptarshi, against whom TMCP brought charges and asked his transfer told TIWN, “No political campaigning will be tolerated from today inside College Compound”.

It’s to be seen how far law & order function on that day as major chances of political turmoil is there.
