AGARTALA, Aug 13 (TIWN): With just one day left for the Independence Day celebration, CRPF 124th battalion has tightened the security measures at the Simna-Mohanpur road and has also intensified the vigil in the public places.

It is to be mentioned here that in the wake of Independence Day celebration the CRPF battalion is doing continuous inspection at the public places, roads, vehicles, hotels, hospital, markets and many other place s only with the aim to conduct error free Independence Day celebration.

Security is beefed up along bordering areas of the northeastern states of Tripura in wake of Independence-Day. The Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) have deployed additional forces to step up vigil in the state bordering with neighbouring Bangladesh just after the days ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15 .

The BSF official said that strength of security forces was augmented in vital areas of the state especially in the areas where the barbed wire fencings are yet to be constructed.

even though the insurgent activities have come down in Tripura unlike other northeastern states, the BSF along with the local police and its forces had intensified the vigilance along the bordering areas to restrict possible trans-border movement.

Patrolling along the Assam-Agartala national highway and interior places was being intensified as a precautionary measure.

Besides, several precautionary steps were also taken by the state police in the city areas like Raj Bhavan, Civil secretariat and other protected areas.

The police and the paramilitary forces are also placed on a high alert in the state. Jointly by the police and the BSF forces are conducting search operations in the interior parts of the states and are checking all vehicles and passengers at different locations including the national highway.

The security forces are asked to maintain a maximum vigil along the Bangladesh border to foil any attempt of intrusion and illegal cross-border movement.

Mountainous terrain, dense forests and other natural hindrances make the unfenced border porous and vulnerable, enabling illegal immigrants and intruders to cross over without any hurdle.

Of the 856-km India-Bangladesh border with Tripura, a little over 85 per cent has been fenced so far.

It is to be mentioned here that the insurgency and illegal trade becomes a common problem due to the lack of fenced area. It is to be, mention that, Tripura shares an 856-km border with Bangladesh and some parts of the border area remain unfenced.

The mountainous terrain and dense forests make the border porous and vulnerable to illegal migrants and intruders crossing over. Though Union Ministry instructs to fence the unfenced area, but maximum work remains to be incomplete.
