AGARTALA, Aug 12 (TIWN): Protesting against the newly slammed Property tax scheme by AMC, TPCC called for dawn to dusk strike and sat on protest outside Tripura Assembly.

Most markets, shops and business establishments, educational institutions, banks and financial institutions remained shut in the state. Roads were deserted and rail services in Tripura were also affected. Presence in government and semi-government offices was very thin.

The 12-hour shutdown largely remained peaceful. Except some stray incidents, no major untoward incident was reported from anywhere so far.

Heavy security arrangements have been made across the state to foil any untoward incident. The striking Congress men did not allow officials to enter the civil secretariat, headquarters of the state administration.

Urban Development Dept. Govt. of Tripura vide a notification no. F-14-(2) UDD/DUD/2013/8510-814 Dated Agartala 25thJanuary, 2016 replaced the existing Tripura Municipal (Assessment and Collection of Property Tax), rules 2004 with new rules.

Tripura Municipal (Assessment & Collection of Property Tax), rules 2016 and subsequently as per rule (1) and (6) of new rule, the Urban Development Dept. has also notify the Municipal Valuation Committee for AMC vide notification F-14 (2) UDD/DUD/2013/ 10895/904/Dated Agartala16th March 2016 and further, the AMC has also co-opted non official members of the comitte for the preparation and proposed property zone and unit area in its meeting held on 11/7/2016 has approved the proposal of Valuation Committee and thus many rules over taxes have also been implemented over the people including the slum area living people.

However the tax will be taken by per square meter measure and homes at Agartala town have been categorized  into 4 groups A B C D.
