Fake-currency dealer held in Tripura with invalid documents, fake note printing machine : Tripura turns a hub for fake Indian currency: Pakistan’s ISI runs fake currency racket in NE region

AGARTALA, Aug 11 (TIWN): Once again fake Indian currency dealer was held by Tripura police at Teliamura on Thursday. Getting informed by secret sources Telimuara police led by SDPO Shyamananda Sharma, Teliamura PS O/C-Siddhartha Shankar, Mungiakami PS OC Shyamal Debbarma caught a fake currency dealer near TSR Camp, at Chakmaghat area. The culprit has been identified as Samuel Halam, S/O- Darthang Halam. The young smuggler was held with fake notes as well as note making machines and equipments from that area. As per sources, Halam was roaming in that area for long to sell fake currencies. Fake note businessman however, took shelter in a home at Krishnachara, Rathinjoy Para, but police was able to nab the culprit. Along with him, 2 fake voter ID cards, 56 fake notes of 100 rupees, many invalid documents, note printing machine were recovered.

According to Teliamura Police, many more members of these type of smuggling rackets are based in Bangladesh, financed by  ISI and terrorist groups. However, police working towards arresting all of them, claimed Teliamura Police.

 In most of these  cases, disclosed by BSF or Police it was seen that young people are more involved in this profession. Pakistan is making huge numbers of Indian fake notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 and those are being smuggled to India via Bangladesh. 

According to sources, Pakistan is smuggling these fake notes to Tripura via Bangladesh through Sonamura, Khowai, Kailashahar and Sadar sub-division.

As many as 250 out of every 10 lakh notes in circulation are fake, according to a study conducted by the Indian Statistical Institute. Typically, at any point in time, banknotes with a face value of Rs 400 crore are in circulation in the country. The study revealed that fake currency notes with a face value of Rs 70 crore are infused into the system every year, and law enforcement agencies are able to intercept only a third of them — a fact that is acknowledged by the agencies themselves.

In this Thrusday's shocking discovery, fake currency  recovery has created much tension there at Teliamura. 

It is to be mentioned that in recent few years, Tripura is gradually developing as the hub for fake Indian currency. The unfenced area in the Indo- Bangladesh border rooted out to be the proper cause for the delivery of these fake currency notes.Besides Bangladesh, illegal persons from Pakistan is smuggling these fake notes to Tripura via Bangladesh through Sonamura, Khowai, Kailashahar and Sadar sub­division.

Apart from Bangladesh border, Tripura’s unchecked border area with Mizoram and Assam is also responsible for increasing fake note businessmen here. In June 20 30th Assam Rifles Btln, under P S Damchara at Dhalai Dist.has booked 2 person red-handed while circulating fake notes worths 1 lakh. The two arrestees have been identified as Balaram Reang (29) and Hobender Reang (48).The fake note circulation has reached out state ATMs also.

Not only fake notes, but Tripura is topping highest in drug business and the smuggling is continuously increasing via North Tripura also other Border areas.  By train, by river bridge or by normal transport, the illegal arms, narcotics are being transported in broad-day light into Tripura.
