AGARTALA, Aug 11 (TIWN): As just two days left for golden Girl Dipa Karmakar’s final performance at the Rio Olympic scheduled to be held on August 14, Dipa’s parents on Thursday offered prayers at Udaipur Tripureshwari temple and prayed for Dipa’s success in Rio Olympic.

It is to be mentioned here that the entire nation is looking forward to Dipa’s performance on August 14 as Dipa is the first women Indian gymnast who have made it upto the Rio Olympic with her swift move of Prudonova.

It is to be mentioned here that Dipa Karmakar created history by becoming the first Indian gymnast to enter the Olympic finals at the Rio Olympic Centre here.

India’s Dipa Karmakar created history on Monday after she became the first Indian to qualify for the apparatus finals of artistic Gymnastics at the Rio 2016 Olympics. Karmakar, who hails from Tripura, finished eighth in the qualification event of the Vaults and scored 14.850 to qualify.

She could not repeat her performance in three other events, namely uneven bars, balancing beam and floor exercise. Though Karmakar was sixth before the final round, a strong performance from Canada saw her slip to eight but that was the last position to qualify.

In a total of five subdivisions, the gymnasts tried to qualify by finishing in top eight. After three subdivisions, Karmakar was sixth and her qualification depended on performances from gymnasts from USA, Japan, Canada and Russia.

The finals of the artistic Gymnastics will be held on August 14, Sunday at 2315 hrs IST.
