AGARTALA, May 12 (TIWN): The Municipal Corporation has taken a very serious view on water-logging and will not tolerate any type of negligence in this regard, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Vikas Singh of Agartala Municipal Corporation told TIWN on Monday.There are 8 – 10 points in the city where water-logging are a perennial problem during monsoon, triggering severe traffic jams and flooding in various localities. “The aim of this move is quick redressal in those water-logging points which brings the national capital to a standstill during the rains,†CEO said.Mr. Singh said that coordination between the various departments and the civic bodies is essential to take up the issue seriously.
Discussing about the water –logging issues faced by the city, he said that the corporation will fix the responsibility on the officer’s concerned and strong action will be taken against those who are found negligent in performing their duties efficiently and carefully with respect to water-logging issues. Meanwhile, a team headed by Deputy CEO Ratan Biswas was constituted to monitor the water – logging issue in the state, stated Mr. Singh.
A list of roads prone to water-logging prepared by the traffic police has been handed over to the agencies concerned to take measures to prevent water stagnation in the city, he added.
The residents of Agartala have been facing water logging problem for the last few years. The situation gets worse during rainy season as they have to wade through at least knee-deep water. A spell of -half-hour heavy rains on Saturday had caused total chaos in the city exposing civic bodies' lack of preparedness to address the problem of water-logging. While DWS had blamed AMC for flooding of streets, the civic body had held DWS responsible for the same.
