AGARTALA, May 9 (TIWN): ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPC) powered first unit of Palatana Thermal Power Plant is scheduled to undergo shutdown for a routine Performance Guarantee Test (PGT) from May 17 midnight. A highly placed source in the OTPC informed TIWN on Friday that PGT would continue for minimum five days. The first turbine has to undergo the Performance Guarantee Test (PGT) to ensure longevity and smooth performance, the source informed.
Each unit of the Palatana power plant is capable of generating 363.3 MW power. The first unit is currently generating 350 MW of power out of which 92 MW goes to Tripura under the sharing agreement with NEC. Engineers and technicians of the BHEL would be overseeing the Performance Guarantee Test (PGT).
Earlier, it was decided Palatana power plant for routine maintenance, PGT was supposed to commence from April 27 last, but due to heat wave condition, followed by the continued requests from a number of State Governments in India’s Northeast, the ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPC) deferred scheduled shutdown of the first unit of OTPC Palatana thermal power plant.
ONGC's second unit of gas-fired thermal power project at Palatana in Tripura will be operational in September this year, the OTPC official said.. However, power evacaution will remain a major problem as the work for the 400 KV double circuit high tension line up from Azaar to Bongaigaon is pending due to forest clearance said the official.
