Kamalpur, May 9 (TIWN): Incessant rains have destroyed standing crops and farmers suffered a huge loss due to heavy rains.

Sources said that continuing rains might cause more damage to farmers who have already suffered huge losses due to water logging in the agriculture fields following heavy rains in the recent past. Huge loss of standing crops has been reported from Methirmia, Kuchainala, Barsurama and Singibill villages along with other villages.

The loss could not be estimated as no official from Agriculture department yet inspected the affected areas. The affected farmers said that various vegetables and Aus paddy drowned due to outpouring in fields and lower regions.

Furthermore, 30 to 35 kanis of land got inundated due to the collapsing of eastern part of Dhalai river embankment at Methirmia village. According to villagers, boulder should be set up shortly to prevent collapsing of embankments or the entire village would get drowned.

On the other hand, the people staying in Methirmia School refugee camp alleged that they were not supplied sufficient meal on the day with heavy rains. Nobody paid attention to those people on the day. Also they alleged that the MLA of the area, political parties and social activists did not lend helping hand to the sheltered people.

Moreover, no delegates from Health department lend a helping hand towards the flood ravaged. The villages have to use dirty impure water to meet up the scarcity of drinking water. One Samir Das, a locale yesterday arranged Khichdi. Meal was not prepared at the refugee camp till 2 pm today.

Sources said that the floods ravaged are relieved to some extent as the river water level is getting down gradually.  One Rabindra Namasudra died of electrocution yesterday.
