39 places approved by Bangladesh for  fencing on zero-line in Tripura

AGARTALA, May 09 (TIWN): Out of the 41 proposed, Bangladesh government has agreed to allow at 39 places for erection of barbed wire fencing on Zero-Line of Indo-Bangla international border in some patches of Tripura, official sources said here on Friday.

"Following India's request, Bangladesh government has agreed to allow construction of fencing on Zero-Line majority of them are South Tripura and Gomati distirct" said a BSF official.

According to the official the construction of fencing on Zero – line  at 16 places is almost  been completed, besides  for last few days work of  fencing was affected due to  incessant rain  in the state.

The BGB had objected to adhere to Indira-Mujib treaty according to which no permanent structure in any form within the 150 yards of the Zero-Line could be constructed. 

However, the state government had identified that some areas where erection of fencing 150 yards away from Zero Line would not be feasible and approached the Centre to seek permission from Bangladesh and after hectic parlance Sheikh Hasina government accepted the request. 

About 90 per cent of the 856-km Indo-Bangla has so far been completed and remaining part would be fenced soon, BSF sources said.Asked about possible vulnerable patches along the border fence alignment in Tripura, the source added that the Home Department is anxious about completion of fencing work along the Eastern border of Tripura. Several patches are lying unfenced in Dhalai, North Tripura and South Tripura districts, he said.

The source added that patches of border are lying unfenced in Sonamura sub-division in Sepahijala district. Stress is being laid on Adampur, Tajaya Mura, Balerdepha, Sobhapur, Srimantapur, Nirbhaypur, AR Pur, Kulubari areas in the sub-division, he added.
