AGARTALA, May 8(TIWN): A joint team of administration, police and BSF today visited Jaypur, Rangamura and Rayermura- all the unfenced border areas in West district to take stock of the situation.

At Akhaura Check Post, the joint team headed by the Addl DM held meeting and tried to find ways on how to relocate 38 families living outside the fencing. After the meeting, the team also talked to the villagers on their possible shifting.

Later, the team visited some locations of Indo-Bangla border where fencing is yet to come up for various reasons. After the meeting, it was decided the unfenced border will be fenced very shortly.

District Magistrate Abhishek Singh has already asked the NBCC to build culverts/ sluice gates at some patches to ensure foolproof security along the border by December.

Of the total 75 km border in West district, only an areas covering 513 meters is yet to be fenced, according to official figure.

According to law enforcement agencies, the unfenced patches are being used by criminal from both sides. “ If the area is fully fenced, the BSF jawans will be able to ensure tight vigil along the border. We are committed to fence the entire West district so that trans border movement could be stopped”, said a senior police officer.

Here it may be noted the DM, West district has already review the fencing work in the district yesterday. Of the total Indo-Bangla border in the state, around 80 percent border line has been fenced while remaining portion is expected to be fenced by next year.
