AGARTALA, July 28 (TIWN): The newly introduced odd-even distribution system of petrol in the state from Thursday has sparked off resentment among the consumers who were unaware about the fact and were standing in queue for fetching petrol since early morning.

According to the consumers they are unaware about the odd-even petrol distribution system and accordingly many consumers keeping aside the knowledge of Odd-even system of petrol distribution were standing in queue since morning 4 at different petrol outlets and mainly at Durga bari petrol pump.

Taking learning from Delhi government, Tripura government also implemented Odd-even system of petrol distribution in the state to combat the acute petrol crisis.  It is to be mentioned here that Tripura has started petrol distribution in odd-even system from Thursday.

Reportedly, The Delhi government twice introduced an "odd-even" system -- under which vehicles with odd and even registration numbers would ply only on odd and even dates respectively -- in a bid to battle pollution.

However, the new system is being introduced in Tripura from Thursday for the first time to deal with the crisis of petrol and diesel and to check black-marketing in petroleum products.

Tripura Food and Civil Supplies Minister Bhanulal Saha earlier attending press said that The odd-even vehicle registration number system will be introduced to distribute petrol and diesel to all vehicles including two-wheelers.

He made the announcement to the media on Monday night. Accordingly, vehicles with odd registration numbers will get fuel only on odd dates and those with even registration numbers on even dates.

Saha said the Indian Oil Corp (IOCL) had taken steps to carry fuel to Tripura via Bangladesh. The minister said the Food Corp of India (FCI) had also initiated steps to transport rice via Bangladesh.

According to the Tripura food and civil supplies department, the north-eastern state requires 200 kilo litre petrol daily.

Reportedly, Crores were sanctioned for NH8-44, but under Tripura PWD era for NH-8 (44) the roadway just turned pathetic and more pathetic.

Tripura Chief Minister in his 23 years of ruling didn’t visit National Highway till day.

Whereas the fuel crisis continues to suffer the state with Long queues or with board of ‘No Petrol’ sign hanging in front of the major petrol pumps, due to the lethargy of PWD and negligence, un-sympathetic attitude with vehicular  and common people the situation has remained unchanged.

The heavily damaged part of National Highway which is causing hindrance for plying of vehicles is yet left without solution and   increasing fuel crisis in the  state.

NH-8 (44) which is known as lifeline of landlocked Tripura has been extensively damaged due to PWD’s negligence, resulting petrol/ diesel crisis in the state.
