ECI to inquire allegations of electoral malpractices in Tripura

AGARTALA, May 7 (TIWN): A delegation of the Election Commission of India is schedule to visit Tripura to inquire into allegations of electoral malpractices in just concluded Lok Sabha polls.

Chief Election Commissioner V.S.Sampath assured the Congress delegation to investigate into the issue. A four member delegation comprising of Ashish Kumar Saha, Dr. Ashok Sinha, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, and Sushanta Choudhury met Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath yesterday. All India Congress Committee legal cell head K C Mittal attended the meeting alongwith others.

The Congress delegation submitted a delegation to the CEC relating to allegations of poll malpractices in the two-phase polling process held in Tripura on April 07 and April 12.In the memorandum, Congress stated that the voters’ list used in the 2013 state legislative assembly election involved false names and all the documents submitted by the opposition parties were ignored.

The voters’ list used in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls was equally erroneous, the memorandum said. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashutosh Jindal did not take any action against the officials involved in violating the sanctity of the electoral rolls, the Congress delegation said.
