DM calls for speedy completion of border fencing

AGARTALA, May 7 (TIWN): A review meeting on border fencing along Indo – Bangla international border of West Tripura district was held on Wednesday at conference hall of district collector office. The meeting was chaired by Abhishek Singh, collector of West Tripura district. The meeting was also attended SDM’s of Mohanpur and Sadar sub division, officials from Land Records and Settlements, NBCC and Commandant of 179 battalion BSF.

In the meeting, Mr.Singh enquired about the progress of border fencing. The BSF officials stated that proposal was sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs for having border fencing at zero line at Mantaala area in Mohanpur block.It was decided in the meeting, the collector of West Tripura district along with other officials is schedule to visit bordering areas of  Joypur, Rangamura and Rayarmura tomorrow.

 
It may be recalled, in West Tripura district out of 75 kilometer of international border fencing 74 kilometer 487 meters have been completed. The remaining 513 meter will soon be completed, West Tripura collector informed.     
 
With border fencing between Tripura and Bangladesh gradually advancing, official border trade too is increasing at the cost of unofficial trade, thus bringing enhanced revenue for the state’s exchequer.As more border area between the state and the neighbouring country is being fenced, informal trade now gets routed through six notified land custom stations (LCS), spread across the state.Fencing of almost 90 per cent of the border between Tripura and Bangladesh has been completed.
