AGARTALA, May 6 (TIWN): A 12 hour strike across the state on May 12 by BJP of Tripura state committe on Tuesday seeking removal of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashutosh Jindal for allegedly aiding in electoral misappropriation during recently concluded Lok Sabha poll process in the state. The party demanded re poll in all sixty assembly segments across two parliament constituencies of the state.
Addressing reporters at the party’s state headquarters in Agartala this afternoon, BJP Tripura state president Sudhindra Dasgupta said that the state election department and local administration was deployed in a planned way in favor of the CPI (M) candidates in parliament election. The ruling party bagged at least an additional three lakh votes by rigging in the Lok-Sabha election process, he alleged.
BJP state president criticizing the the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and said that his office extended direct support to the ruling party by denying to act against corruption, exploitation and deprivation from Panchayat to highest level of administration. Barely 65 to 70 percent voters exercised franchise in the Lok Sabha poll which was projected at 85 percent, he claimed.
The Tripura Pragatishil Grameen Congress earlier announced a bandh on May 12 on a similar demand. While the Trinamool Congress and Pradesh congress openly opposed the strike.
