AGARTALA, July 22 (TIWN): In a bizarre incident, a 25 year old woman died on the spot when a BSF jawan of 145Batallion fired at her at Sonamura Tarapukur area on Friday afternoon. The deceased is identified as Maya khatun, resident of Sonamura tarapukur area who is also a mother of two children. Talking to TIWN correspondent, case I/O Amal Chakraborty said that the incident occurred at around 12.30 in the afternoon when a BSF jawan of 142 Battalion fired at women and left her dead on the spot and ran away. However, getting alarm the locals of Sonamura Tarapukur area reached the spot and immediately informed the Sonamura police. However, police reached the spot and found that the women died after she was fired by a BSF Jawan. Police suspects it to be outcome of personal dispute between the jawan and the woman, added Case I/O Amal Chakraborty. I/O further said that the accused jawan is yet absconding and security is tightened in the area.

Nothing can be said until further investigation, added Chakraborty. Sonamura area has become the corridor for smuggling of narcotics, crime with the support of mafias and the place has also become a pious-land for extremists.

Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Assam share an 1,880 km border with Bangladesh, while Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh share a 1,640 km unfenced border with Myanmar.

Despite wire fence in most of the parts of the border areas smuggling of contraband goods is still on a rise.Illegal intrusion of smugglers, robbery, theft cases and smuggling is on a rise across the Indo-Bangla border. Smuggling of Phensedyl a cough syrup, with an exceedingly high dose of codeine and other contraband items are increasing day by day in the state. A section of people alleged that due to the under table connection between police and smugglers the police are not doing anything to stop the smuggling of Phensedyl and contraband items.

Every day contraband items worth lakhs and lakhs of rupees are being intruded to Bangladesh as it brings huge income.

However, the localites alleged that in the broad day the smugglers under the nose of the BSF jawans throws packets and boxes of the contraband goods over the wire fence and someone on the other side receive the boxes.

The fence on the Tripura-Bangladesh border being erected to block infiltrators, but militants, have succeeded to find out their way for entering the state and carry out their narcotic business openly.

Police often detain vehicles and seize thousands of bottles of Phensedyl consignments that are not used in Tripura but are supplied to Bangladesh. But, this is just the tip of the iceberg because the network is very deep rooted and widespread.

Illegal intrusion of the extremist, smuggling of contraband items and cattle’s across Tripura to Bangladesh and vice-versa has become an everyday-issue. Despite the wire fencing across the border area smuggling  is on a crest for transporting the prohibited goods.
