AGARTALA, July 22 (TIWN): Tripura was once known for its huge cultivation of Bamboos and handicrafts, but now seeing the extinction of Bamboo-Handicrafts-Culture, due to the negligence of the state govt. initiatives in Bamboo cultivation.
Since years there was no promotion of Bamboo- Handicrafts productions anywhere in India.
Whereas village people across the state is more depending upon illegal Ganja cultivation, the state Govt. has no concern to bring the increasing Ganja production down.
Moreover, state govt. is inspiring people for more rubber plantation and in 2016-17 budget also the Rubber Plantation was given the first priority.
Due to all these wrong planning, the bamboo cultivation, bamboo handicrafts lost its ground and as a result the market is hit with high costly bamboo products.
The bamboo artisans of Tripura has been living under misery within their homes. As a result bamboo-handicrafts-production is not selling globally as Govt. is not interested to promote the business.
TIWN correspondent visited a house at Durjoynagar, Agatala where artisans living in poverty and selling every bamboo made baskets at Rupees. 50 /- only to the whole sale businessmen.
On the one hand cost of bamboo has touched sky high due to its continuous extinction, but on the other hand the artisans are selling hand made products in low prices and passing days in poverty.
CM Manik Sarkar couldn'tfind a better person in whole India so CM hired retired Chief Secretary S.K.Panda to head Tripura's skill development Mission but 'so called 'Skill Development' is a far away dream under the leadership of a technically illeterate IAS official like Panda.
