AGARTALA, July 9 (TIWN): In yet another shocking incident, a dead-body was recovered from an uncovered drain at Radhanagar near BOC on Saturday morning. West PS Police informed, the deceased has been identified as Gour Dey (45), S/O-Anil Dey resident of Radhanagar. Police further said, ‘Gour Dey belonged to a poor family used to work in a fast food shop as helper’. ‘His body was found in an uncovered drain and presently the body has been sent to GB Hospital for post mortem, till now police have that much information’, said West Police.
However, allegations are coming that he was murdered as it’s not possible for a normal man to die inside a small drain. The uncovered drains of Agartala have become a matter of risks for Agartala people, as anytime children can also meet easy death inside them.
However, it’s worthy to mention here that if Agartala town was protected with CCTV cameras, then it would be much easier to solve the issue.
During nights, the capital city becomes the domain of robbers, thieves, lunatics and in this situation the there is no CCTV cameras also in the city since years. Various murders, ATM looting, robberies held in Agartala, but due to lack of CCTV cameras police has failed to identify the culprits.
Earlier, talking to SP Abhijit Saptarshi, he said, “The ‘launching of CCTV camera’ project is underway but we are deciding, whether they will be wireless or optic-fiber”. “CCTV cameras help to identify the culprits and very helpful in crime direction” , says Saptarshi. “CCTV cameras is our first priority but the work is undergoing simultaneously”, he added.“Within next 3 to 4 months the work on CCTV cameras will be started in full wave, and the project is underway now”, says Saptarshi.
Asking about the repairing of CCTV cameras, he said, “The damaged CCTV cameras will be repaired first but we are also finding out the locations of setting new CCTV cameras”, he said.
It’s worthy to mention here that in Capital City’s Swami Vivekanda Stadium in total 15 cameras, in Police Station 1, Fire Service Chowmuhani 2, Battala 4, Nagerjala 4, Post Office Chowmuhani 3 and City Centre 3 are not working.
However on February 18, 2015, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar himself said in the Assembly that all the police stations to be provided with CCTV cameras but presently maximum cameras are left damaged and unused. In the city more than 30 CCTV cameras are left in ‘non-workable condition’ which increase the chances of crime in the City.
In this situation the increasing crime rates inside state, especially at Agartala City is nothing abnormal, as it’s huge populated zone. Launching of CCTV Cameras may help to reduce crimes inside state.
