Local miscreants robbed merchant at Maharani area at Kamalpur: Fear emerged of peace being destabilized

KAMALPUR, July 5 (TIWN): Fear of destabilizing peace and harmony as well as smooth plying on the Kamalpur-Ambassa road became strong once again in these days of insurgency-free Tripura.

And the fear emerged as the some local youths at Maharani area under Salema police station ultimately robbed a merchant last night. The matter got informed to police accordingly and police started investigation in the matter.

According to the incident, one Rajib Das Choudhury of Chotosurma area went to Ambassa with his personal goods carrier bearing number TR-04B-1523 along with his driver Arjun Chakraborty.

At around 7-15 pm when they reached Maharani area on their way back home the tyre of their vehicle got punctured. Accordingly, they started to change the punctured one with a fresh one. In the meanwhile some three local tribal youths approached to them and demanded money for cigarette. They gave them 20 rupees. Then the youths went towards Shantirbazzar.

After a while they again arrived along with two more tribal youths with vehicle numbered ML-04C-2213. Then the youth demanded all the money Rajib had with him and threatened to kill them both if they not pay them. In fear Rajib handed his purse to them and they snatched 1, 100 rupees from Rajib.

This incident got informed with police. And police started investigation. However, Rajib and Arjun could not recognize the youths. Now, it might be mentioned here that, for a long time some youths of Maharani area used to create disturbances on the road at night.

But the police authority never took the matter seriously. And as a result, the incident took place. Now, what steps would the police adopt remained the matter to be seen.
