Northeast celebrates Intl Yoga Day-2016 : 'Yoga craze in public was eye-catching in Tripura', Sports Minister Sahid Chowdhury talks to TIWN

AGARTALA, June 21 (TIWN): Millions of Indians on Tuesday morning stretched and twisted their bodies and performed breathing exercises to celebrate the second International Yoga Day, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Chandigarh urging people to delink the ancient Indian practice from their religious beliefs. The craze for Yoga was very much visible also in Northeast. Tripura which is ruling by Left front Govt. and Mizoram which is basically Christian populated state celebrated the day with full enthusiasm. On the occasion of ‘International Yoga Day-2016’ Tripura Sports Minister Sahid Chowdhury has congratulated the state and also appreciated various organizations for organizing ‘Yoga Day’. Talking to TIWN he further said, ‘People’s active participation in Yoga is really eye-catching’. On Tuesday, Tripura Sport Minister Sahid Chowdhury had inaugurated the International Yoga Day in Umakanta Stadium.

The progamme was inaugurated by Tripura Sport Minister Sahid Chowdhury, at 7.30 am.  

Along with Sahid Chowdhury Govt. High Officials as DM West Millind Ramteke, AMC Mayor Prafullajit Sinha, Transport Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik and others were present. 

Apart from Umakanta Stadium, at Rabindra Bhawan ground, Tushibati ground, Astabal, Pragagti school ground, Agartala Press Club and many other places the Yoga practice was observed. Tripura's Sports, Youth Affairs, Education and Health Departments jointly observed the day at 70 places in the state. "From gram panchayat level to state level, Yoga events were organised today. 

Colourful rallies were also organised everywhere before performance of Yoga by school students, security personnel and people from other walks of life," Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sahid Chowdhury told reporters in Agartala.

Minister said Yoga courses and training would be introduced in 105 primary schools from Class one to eight this year. Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy took part in several Yoga events here and southern Tripura's Udaipur.

Celebration of Yoga Day has been started across Tripura since last 1 week.

Boarder Security Force (BSF), Assam Riffles and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and many other observed Yoga demonstration and practice session to celebrate the nationwide International Yoga Day.
