AGARTALA, June 21 (TIWN): MLA Dilip Sarkar who recently joined TMC after quitting Congress, in an one to one meeting with Tripura Assembly speaker Ramendra Chandra Debnath at Tripura assembly on Monday said that he has joined TMC with his own will and he was not forced by anyone to join the party.
Tripura Assembly speaker Ramendra Chandra Debnath on Monday begins with the one to one discussion with the 6 leaders who recently joined TMC after quitting Congress in Tripura.

Tripura assembly Speaker Ramendra Chandra Debnath on Monday called MLA Dilip Sarkar and held meeting to take a note about the issue of Congress legislators who have joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Assembly speaker Ramendra Chandra Debnath called them up for individual hearing and verification of their signatures. After consulting the rules and experts, final decision will be taken.

It is to be mentioned here that Four Congress MLAs met Assembly speaker few days back and submitted a letter with their signatures as well as those of two others who were not physically present during giving the resignation which has sparked off controversy among the political frame of Tripura.  They have joined the Trinamool Congress and demanded recognition as the main opposition party.

However, among the six Pranjit Singha Roy was out of Tripura while an ailing Dilip Sarkar was not present when Roy Barman handed over the letter to the Speaker, but MLA Dilip Sarkar on Monday claimed that he joined TMC on his own will and not under any pressure.

It is to be mentioned here that TMC’s Tripura unit president Ratan Chakraborty, a minister in the Congress-led state government during 1988-1993, earlier warned that if the Speaker did not recognise his party as the main opposition party in the assembly and the six rebel Congress

Legislators as TMC legislators, they will seek the governor’s intervention.

MLA sudip Roy Barman along with other party leaders resigned from the Congress to protest the party’s electoral alliance with Left parties in West Bengal.

However, another Congress legislator, Jitendra Sarkar, resigned from the Tripura assembly and said he would rejoin the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist.

With these resignations, the Congress’ strength in the Tripura assembly has been reduced to the lowest ever three from 10 in the 60-member House. The ruling CPI-M-led Left Front has 50 lawmakers.

Six Tripura MLAs have written to Assembly Speaker Ramendra K Nath announcing their decision to disassociate from the congress party and join the Trinamool Congress.

All the six MLA’s are Sudip Roy Barman, Asish Kumar Saha, Dilip Sarkar, Paranjit Singha Roy, Diba Chandra Hrangkhawl and Biswa Bandhu Sen.

It is to be mentioned here that in major political development in Tripura, six Congress legislators joined the Trinamool Congress.
