Modi’s Act East policy boosts Tripura’s economy  with growing commercial relation via waterways

AGARTALA, June 20 (TIWN): In 2015, various waterway commercial businesses planned to grow up by utilizing NE states geographical location.

As a part of Modi and Hasina’s agreement Tripura has seen a historical moment on Sunday 5 pm—when iron sheet from Bangaldesh’s Ashuganj river port has been delivered to Tripura via Akhaura Checkpost on Sunday. Earlier via Akhaura food grains, fishes, bricks etc. were used to imported to state but it’s for the first time that bearing 1,000 metric tons of iron sheets entered here on Sunday.

Reportedly, the trucks reached in Tripura’s Akhaura check post on Sunday at around 5 pm directly from Bangladesh’s Ashuganj river port.

The Ashuganj river port which is about 32 Kms from Agartala by road.

Reportedly,  Bangladesh based Anbis Development Ltd had allowed by Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) to facilitate transportation of 1000 MT asbestos sheets from West Bengal to Agartala via waterways.

Bangladesh based enterprise is carrying  the consignment from Haldia port of West Bengal to Ashuganj river port of Bangladesh and afterwards by road to Agartala at the cost of Rs 192 per metric ton.

 Tripura government has sought permission from Bangladesh to carry 2000 MT iron bar via waterways in next phase.

Kolkata based Rashmi Metallic's has been placed order to carry the iron bar via waterways of Bangladesh.

The construction sector of Tripura has been suffering from shortage of construction materials for past few months.

Due to bad road condition of National Highway, the Tripura government wants to bring them via Bangladesh, sources added. Earlier, Tripura has transported over dimensional machineries for Palatana power plant in South Tripura and 10,000 MT rice from Visakhapattanam of Andhra Pradesh via Ashuganj river port.UNI BB AD ADG PM1134

People there were eagerly waiting for the entrance of trucks filled with steel-made-rod on Sunday morning.

The consignment for Tripura started from Haldia port (West Bengal) on June 3rd, using waterways for Ashuganj port.

However talking to custom officer on border he said, ‘The trucks are still at Ashuganj port and to start soon’.
