AGARTALA, June 10 (TIWN): Tripura Transport Dept’s apathy over NH-44 continue even after rain was stopped a week long back. Tripura’s life line NH-44’s pathetic condition has remained same as the reason behind suffering of vehicle during the whole year as their business, time, exported items all destroys.Instead of several complains the National Highway has remains as it is in state. Tripura Govt.’s negligence and PWD’s corruption since decades has turned the highway into a death-zone. Whether Tripura’s biggest issue now is NH-44’s restoration, but the PWD Minister, Transport Minister including their Secretaries try to escape responsibilities by saying that NH-44 is no more under the State Govt. and due to fund allocation issues state can’t progress the work. However,, talking to North Tripura DM Sandeep Mahatme, it has been known that not much development has been done with NH-44, as the renovation is undergoing slowly. He said, “Reports of 300 vehicles’ movement via NH-44 is there”. “Since last 3 / 4 days vehicles are moving on National Highway”.Asking about the renovation work, he mentioned that the work is inspecting by the DC of that District and the work is under ADC and some companies.

It’s worthy to mention here that NH-44 although the longest ever unsolved problem, but the state govt. has no concern to renovate it fast apart, except blaming the central govt. and crying over funds.

The deplorable condition of National Highway 44 – the only road connectivity that links mainland India with the eastern part of Meghalaya, Barak Valley in Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura – has for a long time in pathetic shape.

Although the central Govt. pushing the states to upgrade the transport system, but Tripura govt. has least concerns on States transporation.

Slow movement of vehicles leading various kinds of crisis in state, among them LPG gas crisis is on the top.
