AGARTALA, June 10 (TIWN): Increasing water pollution in state has hit the common people’s lives in Tripura. In villages due to the negligence of the administrative the rivers and other water sources are on the verge of extinction, as direct garbage and dust are flown over them.

In Udaipur, after decades of human torture the water-body of Jagannath lake was destroyed, but after allocating hefty amount of central fund govt is not changing the dirty water as fishermen have given objection. But for the sake of votes, Minister Ratan Bhowmik is not giving the permission to change the water there, and people there are suffering due to the dirty water existing in the heart of the city and the poisonous fishing cultivation is going  there in full wave.

In capital city Howrah River, which is the lifeline of Agartala city because it fulfills the major demand of drinking water as well as water for other purposes of the entire population of the city has become a life-taking water-source.

Central funds have been looted in the name of plantation in Howrah river banks,  cemented toilets including many other targets to fulfill within few years. But after all these the situation has been same.

The water of Howrah river is the main source of drinking water for the people of Agartala and its surrounding areas from Champaknagar to Bangladesh border. Previously the river water was pollution free due to less anthropogenic interferences. Presently, the number of inhabitants on the banks of the river is increasing very fast.

However, it is to be mentioned here that earlier during the year 2013 the state govt. had send Rs. 6 crore budget for the pollution free project work of the Battala Haora River.  Then again in 2015, more funds were allocated. But till day no steps has been taken by the state govt.  resulting the people of the capital city Agartala to use the polluted water of river Howrah.

Then the condition of Gomati river, Kakri river, Manu river are also same.

The govt. lakes are in pathetic shape and the filling up of ponds are presently very common activity with Govt.’s approval which affective the eco-system badly.

As a result, Tripura is going to suffer from major water scarcity problems in the coming days, if no initiative is taken to maintain the purity of water.
