AGARTALA, June 8 (TIWN): Tripura Transport dept. is yet to be informed about the exact date of Express Train service to begin in Tripura. Earlier, it was said that Broad Gauge Express train will run from June 16 and Union Railway Ministry Suresh Prabhu will inaugurate the BG train service, but there is no guarantee of that as of now. However, leaving everything upto NFR, Samarjit Bhowmik, Transport secretary said that, “Train service functioning is NFR job, and Tripura Govt. is not yet informed about it”. A hope was there that the Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will inaugurate express train named Subidha Special in this running month, with 19 coach and the train would run between Agartala and Kolkata. However, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) H.K. Jaggi on June 1st said that the Broad Gauge (BG) rail service will be inaugurated by the second or third week of this month from Agartala, after he held meetings with Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Transport Minister Manik Dey.But Tripura Govt. officials have no concerns about the probable date to start the train service.

It’s worthy to mention here that Tripura Govt. with own initiative never bothered for the faster development of railway service in Tripura. 

But when the BG train service was inaugurated , Tripura Transport Minister and other officials thronged to grab the credit from Railways.

The passenger train service between Agartala and Silchar (in southern Assam) began on Friday, fulfilling a decades-old demand for broad gauge railway connectivity between Tripura and the rest of India..

However, due to landslide and similar problem the train service inauguration planning was halted. Now Tripura is eagerly waiting for the Express Train Service to be launched in state.
