AGARTALA, June 7 (TIWN): As expected rebel Congress MLAs led by Sudip Roy Barman today joined Trinamool Congress officially amidst great enthusiasm from the supporters. However, unexpectedly out of 6 Congress MLAs, only 4 resigned from Congress and Dilip Sarkar and Pranajit Singha Roy were not present during handing over the letter to speaker but have expressed their willingness to join TMC over the phone to Assembly speaker. All India Trinamool Congress Vice President arrived at Agartala by the morning flight and immediately held a meeting with the rebel Congress MLAs in presence of Ratan Chakraborty and Arun Chandra Bhowmik . Soon after the meeting the MLAs met with press persons and declared that they joined TMC leaving the Congress. Meanwhile TMC leadership met the Speaker Ramendra Debnath in his chamber and submitted their demand to recognise TMC as the opposition party in the Assembly with 6 MLAs.TMC will hold a rally at Agartala to mark the inclusion of 6 MLAs to the party . Sudip Roy Barman will be the Leader of Opposition in newly merged TMC MLAs.

It is to be mentioned here that surprisingly, Congress MLA Jiten Sarkar resigned from his MLA post on Monday and joined CPI-M , the party he left in 2010 protesting against misrule of the party in Tripura. At dead of night on Monday PCC President Birjit Sinha too expelled MLA Biswabandhu Sen from the primary membership of Congress for anti-party activities for a period of 6 years.

After these rebel MLAs had a telephonic chat with Mukul Roy on late Monday night and it was decided that without taking any risk the rebel MLAs will join TMC on Tuesday.

Mukul Roy too rushed to Agartala on Tuesday. It is learnt that workers and supporters from different parts of the state have already started to come to Agartala along with the some leaders , who resigned from their posts protesting against the unethical alliance of Congress with CPI-M .

Thus, TMC starts its journey in the state with a set of new leadership at the cost of Congress Party's decimation in Tripura due to Yechury-Sonia's infamous Political Alliance in Bengal Poll.
