AGARTALA, June 4 (TIWN): Members of Amra bangalee on Saturday staged protest rally at Agartala and demanded to take action against the accused involved in the Kanchanpur fire mayhem.

The members of the Amra bangalee on Saturday strongly condemn the incident and they want the police team to take necessary action.

Earlier members of Amra bangalee also placed deputation to IG police.

To arrest the accused in next 48 hours, to provide rehabilitation and compensation for the effected families, to provide security along with 4 charters of demands the Members of Amra bangalee on Saturday staged protest and demanded strict action against the kanchanpur fire mayhem incident.

Reportedly, the clash, in which seven police personnel were injured, began four days ago when an inmate had been caught catching fish illegally from the pond of a person at nearby Kashirampur.

The 32-year-old camp inmate was beaten up by the pond owner and villagers. He was admitted to Kanchanpur hospital, from where he was released and later he committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree.

Violence broke out between Bru tribals and Bengalis in Kashirampur village in Tripura's Kanchanpur area where six refugee camps for Brus displaced from Mizoram are located.

Bru tribals burnt down at least 18 houses and injured 17 people, including two fire service workers. Seventeen heads of cattle were charred to death.

The trouble broke out following the suicide of a Bru man in Kanchanpur hospital on Sunday. Brighuram Reang (32), an inmate of Naishingpara refugee camp, had been admitted in the hospital after being attacked by Bengali villagers on May 3 for allegedly stealing fish from a village pond. Reang, who went missing from the hospital, was found hanging from a nearby tree.

Angry inmates of the Bru camps alleged that Reang committed suicide after being intimidated by Bengalis of Kashirampur. They also accused Bengalis of the surrounding villages of ill-treating them for the past few years.

Around 100 Bru tribals took to the streets on Sunday with Reang's corpse and attacked villagers of Kashirampur with sharp weapons. They set houses on fire and looted shops, forcing the villagers to flee to a nearby police camp. Extra security forces were deployed in the area. Bru tribals stopped fire tenders from reaching the village but police escorted the vehicles to Kashirampur.
