AGARTALA, June 1 (TIWN): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Wednesday during a meeting with the Disaster Management Dept. alerts the people of Tripura against high chances of earthquake in NE region.

The programme held on Wednesday, in the name of ‘Sendai Framework for Disaster management Risk Reduction 2015-30 at Pragna Bhawan.

The programme was organized by Revenue Dept. Govt. of Tripura.

Minister Badal Chowdhury, CS Y P Sing were also present during the programme.

CM however,  also asked the people to work jointly when any natural hazardous comes.

Due to the earthquake held on April faced many losses as cracks developing in homes, rail-station damage and similar other losses.

In this running year 2016, the earthquake was felt more than twice in this NE region, but this time people got really scared on the eve of festive season.

Tripura being filled up with unscientific buildings without any gaps, including the Govt. office is in the high risk now, which however can’t be changed anymore.

Since decades earthquake was never taken seriously by Tripura Govt. and as a result no awareness camp were organized by this govt. to aware public about how to make earthquake proof houses or how to deal with earthquake jolts.

Moreover, public and govt. both indulged in making unscientific buildings resulting out of Municipal’s apathy.

However, Tripura saved this time as the distance of the earthquake’s epi-centre and soil was alteast 152 km from the Crust (upper layer of the soil).

Moreover, at Agartala the building including Govt. hostels and hospitals are made in such a way, that people if can come out of the houses(during earth quake) but may not survive due to the confusedness of those building areas. For example, at Krishnanagar, the Govt. has constructed 2 girls hostels: one for students and another for working women. But the gaps in between those hostels and nearby houses are so less that during earthquake there is no possibility that people would find out a space to stand there.

Then many private business zones as Big Bazar are often claimed as for done illegal construction without following proper safety thumb-rules.

Not only in Agartala, but in other subdivisions also people are constructing buildings as per their wishes. Govt. offices, hostels and other buildings in Tripura are suffered from poor construction and alleged for using cheap materials.

As a result once earthquake comes, a large number of lives losses chance is very high here.
