AGARTALA, June 1 (TIWN): Governor Tathagata Roy amidst addressing the valedictory function at Tripura Assembly of Wednesdayconcluded the two day long 15th Annual conference of North East region commonwealth parliamentary association (NERCPA) at Tripura Assembly.

It is to be mentioned here that Tripura has hoisted this meet for the second time. Reportedly, 8th Annual conference of NERCPA was held at Agartala during 15th to 18th January, 2005. Then, the e speaker Lok Sabha Somnath Chatterjee inaugurated the conference.

However, Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan inaugurated the conference on 31st May at 10.45 AM in the house of Tripura Legislative assembly.

This year two issues were selected for discussion, including to strengthening the NERCPA for further development NE Region states and the other one is soil erosion in NE India and its impact on the local populace and how political intervention could help resolve the issues.

However, the speaker of Lok Sabha stayed at Raj Bhawan.

CM Manik Sarkar also remained present in the inaugural program.

Lok sabha speaker Sumitra mahajan arrived in the state for the first time for attending the NERCPA meet.

All NE MPs sat together for the first time here in Tripura and her arrival is considered as a historical moment for Tripura. 

Sumitra Mahajan, who is the 16th Lok Sabha speaker of India, is an Indian politician who has been the Speaker of the Lok Sabha since 2014. 

However, this year all the secretaries of NE state legislatures remained present in the conference. All the delegates had reached Agartala on 30 May and will leave Agartala on June 2nd.
