KAMALPUR, May 20 (TIWN): The leftist liked to demand themselves as the saviour of society, culture and heritage. They also used to claim that, during their regime only the finer and true culture could flourish in every aspect of life and society.

But, it remained a fact that, in the sector of art and sculpture the decisions and creations during their regime in the state always remained under scanner and controversy. And even the sculpture of Tagore not got rid of controversy at Agartala.

The same type of blunder got committed here at Kamalpur with the poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. And the party leaders and workers remained mysteriously numbed up in the issue. As a result distorted Nazrul remained there by the Kamalpur-Baligaon road at Sayeed Chowmuhanui for almost half a decade.

Almost five years ago, the Nagar panchayat authority built up a community hall at Sayeed Chowmuhani as the town hall was under construction then. And in front of that hall a bust of Nazrul was set. But from the very first day, the bust created much controversy as it had no resemblance with Nazrul but shoulder-long curly hair.

The then authority controlled the damage by assuring the replacement of the bust as early as possible. As a result, the so-called intellectuals and local people numbed up in the issue.

The authority changed in the Nagar Panchayat. Though the party remained the same but new faces took the charge of the Nagar panchayat who claimed to be more cultured and intellectual.

Still, the bust of Nazrul remained there at its position. The authority not found eager to change the bust and to rectify their folly with new one.
