The Howrah River’s Pollution is now at such a high level that the amount of toxins, chemicals and other dangerous bacteria found in the river are now almost threatening a danger to the lives of the people.

Water of Howrah river is the main source of water for Agartala city and is also said as the life-line for Agartala, however, days are not far when the city will face severe crisis of water if the pollution continues at this large level.

Despite CM’s several plea to the dwellers along the river to curb the pollution of the river water the pollution still continues in the river. Dumping of human excreta and solid waste has immensely resulted to the pollution of the river water. Continuous cleaning of clothes, washing of utensils and bathing of the cattle is the major source of the pollution.

There are no major industries in the city, main causes of pollution of water bodies including Howrah River is the contamination of human waste (septage) with the water bodies, resulting contamination of the water.
