DHARMANAGAR, May 14 (TIWN): In a breaking development in lawless Tripura, Dharmanagar District Hospital’s Doctor Mrinal Kanti Nath was caught red-handed by locals on Saturday for selling expired medicines to visiting patients. Reportedly, ‘expired-medicine selling racket’ was exposed when a patient of Lalchara, under Dharmanagar Sub-Division became seriously ill after he consumed the prescribed medicine by Dr Nath. Since years, majority of patients and local people were fuming against Dr Mrinal Kanti Nath as during his visit in Primary Govt. health centres across Dharmanagar were charging fees from the villagers. Dr. Mrinal Kanti Nath is a Govt. Doctor based in Dharmanagar over 10 years but allegedly involved with many underground drug smuggling, involved in selling counterfeit medicines, prescribing patients expired medicines.
After the ghastly expose, when the Panchayat Pradhan Khela Malakar asked the cause behind such gross negligence, Dr. Mrinal Nath denied negligence and blamed villagers.
Police has taken Dr. Nath into custody for questioning, but no arrest has been done as per the report. CMO has not permitted for his arrest.
However, few locals told TIWN correspondent that Dr. Mrinal Nath is a hardcore CPI-M supporter, thatswhy Dr. Nath is looting public money being a Govt. Doctor at District Hospital.
Poor people, mostly daily labours, villagers who went to the district hospital, said that the Doctor charged them in the range of 100 to 200 rupees.
Dr. Mrinal Nath’s room was packed with full of expired and counterfeit medicines when locals charged the Doctor.
It’s to be mentioned here that Tripura Health dept. although claims for proving best health service in state, but this incident has smashed the poor people’s faith upon the Doctors and Tripura Govt.’s health service.
