AGARTALA, May 12 (TIWN): Fulfilling the year long demands of BG passengers train service finally running smoothly over past few days in the landlocked state- Tripura which has recently made its place in the railway map of the world connecting with rest of India. A pair of passenger train is continuously rolling its wheel between Silchar and Agartala and these particular trains would run until May 20. Talking to TIWN correspondent, NFR construction official said that recently the BG Passenger train is running smoothly and there is possibility that a express train will also run in this track from May 22. He further said that the final decision would be taken after the WB assembly polls results. The long wait of northeastern state of Tripura to have direct broad-gauge rail connectivity with rest of India comes true after a long session of wait. However, now the wait for the express train begins. Adding another milestone in the history of Tripura, the land-locked state has finally made its entry in the BG railway map of the country. Recently, with the trial run of the train on the newly converted broad-gauge (BG) track of Agartala-Badarpur route upto Agartala railway station has created a milestone in the history of Tripura.

Improving the transport and connectivity in the landlocked Tripura of the northeast region is one of the top most priorities of the government. A lot of focus is being laid to enhance railway connectivity in the region.

In the first phase, the 210-km Lumding-Silchar gauge conversion project was completed last year. In the second phase, the 227-km Badarpur-Agartala gauge conversion was scheduled to be completed in March but was completed three months earlier. With the completion of gauge conversion work right up to Agartala, the Tripura capital was connected with the country’s broad gauge railway network through Guwahati at a distance of about 600 km.

With the everyday progress in the conversion work, the common mass of the state is observing a ray of hope for faster communication and transportation with the introduction of express train in teh coming days.

Days are not so far when after the BG (Broad gauge) passenger train service, express train will also run on the newly converted BG track.

The successful run of the trains on the broad-gauge track will bring sync with those in the rest of the country and Tripura is gearing up for faster connectivity and communication with several parts of the nation.
