Guardians complain against inhuman attitude of teacher, minor girl student beaten up by teacher, left injured

AGARTALA, May 10 (TIWN): In a bizarre incident, a section of guardians of Hindi higher secondary school on Tuesday staged protest outside school demanding immediate transfer of a teacher from school in allegation of beating a minor student in the school.

Reportedly, on Saturday lasts a teacher identified as Elizabeth Jamatia beaten up a minor girl student studying in class v and left her seriously injured.

Agitated parents and the other guardians of the school students on Tuesday staged protest outside the school and demanded immediate transfer of the teacher from the school. The parents further alleged this particular teacher is rough towards the students and always does physical violence on the student in the class.

However, the parents also complained to school principal. Hearing complain, the school principal said that he is not aware of the matter and he will carry out proper investigation into the matter and after investigation he will take necessary action against the teacher.

The ministry of women and child development has proposed imprisonment of up to seven years for teachers indulging in corporal punishment in schools. 

It is to be mentioned here that a new section on corporal punishment commensurate with the provisions of the Indian Penal Code for "hurt" and "grievous hurt" offences. 
The amendment could be put up for the Union cabinet's approval in a few weeks and will be placed in Parliament in the winter session. 
The proposed section 85, which could be incorporated in the Juvenile Justice Act, spells a jail term of up to one year or fine or both in case a child is hurt and emotionally distressed. For every subsequent offence of this nature, the offender can be imprisoned for up to three years. For causing grievous hurt or severe mental trauma to a child, the offender could be liable for rigorous imprisonment of five years and fine and a subsequent conviction could lead to a jail term of up to seven years and fine.
