AGARTALA, May 9 (TIWN): Although initiatives are taken to construct Indo-Bangla border fence in various parts of the state, it seems like the snail pace reform in the construction is leading to several illegal intrusion.

It is to be mentioned here that though construction of fence in the Indo-Bangla border area has started long back but the progress is very slow.

With the slow progress in the construction of border fence, intrusion of illegal items through Indo-Bangla border areas goes rampant.

Locals residing in the border adjacent area have been spending their life being haunted by intrusion of various illegal items in the area.

It is to be mentioned here that several months has been passed that the construction work of border fencing has initiated but till day the work is not yet completed at Silpara under Kailashahar sub-division.

However, the construction work has been suspended for several times. The work was supposed to be completed long back but due to several obstructions in the work it is getting impossible for the construction agency to complete the work soon.

Smuggling of Phensedyl a cough syrup, with an exceedingly high dose of codeine and other contraband items are increasing day by day in the state.

However, a section of people residing in the border area stated that the smuggling business is running for decades. Besides, they also alleged that the illegal business is going on rampant due to under table connection between police and smugglers.

Besides, no strict initiatives are being taken to curb down the rising crime in the state.

Police has been often detaining number of vehicles and seize thousands of bottles of Phensedyl consignments that are not used in Tripura but are supplied to Bangladesh. But, this is just the tip of the iceberg because the network is very deep rooted and widespread.

According to the reports, around eight kilometres of Balerdhepa, Srimantapur, northern side of Durgapur and NC Nagar under Sonamura Police Station, 200 meters of Tarapur village and around 800 meters of Buxanagar are yet to be fenced.

Illegal intrusion of the extremist, smuggling of contraband items and cattle’s across Tripura to Bangladesh and vice-versa has become an everyday-issue. Despite the wire fencing across the border smuggling is on a crest for transporting the prohibited goods.
