AGARTALA, May 7 (TIWN): After crossing the deadline, being unable to complete the work in the given deadline the much ambitious project of underground power cable laying work is stopped suddenly. With the deplorable condition of the poles it has becomes necessary to lay underground power cables. The central government has sanctioned Rs 165 crore for Tripura to lay underground electricity cable. Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has taken the work to lay a wide underground network of high and low tension wires through towns with this fund but the work is stopped suddenly.Talking to TIWN correspondent, TSECL MD Shyamal Roy said that at present the work is stopped and there is no assurance when will the work resume. The funds have been sanctioned for 16 towns of the state, work for Agartala has started. Although it was expected to complete the work by March 2016 but the work shows that it will keep on extending for longer time.Apart from aesthetics, the cables are more secure, tamper proof and have a longer life.Apart from aesthetics, the cables are more secure, tamper proof and have a longer life.

In first phase, the fund was supposed to be used to 50 km long underground high tension cables and 31 -km long low tension cables in the city. Officials and engineers of the TSECL although took care to avoid damage of underground gas distribution, telephone and water supply lines during the work but the work has stopped suddenly. It seems that the project would require few more months to complete the work to make Agartala first city in northeast India to have the facility but the sudden break in the work delays the work more.

It is to be mentioned here that under R-APDRP scheme, TSECL has also started setting computerized billing systems across the state and department has also initiated renovation of entire power systems across the state. Soon, TSECL would set up new transformers in all sub divisional towns of the state along with changes of power conductors for better electric supply.

However, it is worthy to mention here that during the year 2014, it was informed that the work has already launched and laying of cable is being completed in 50km stretch in the first phase. The so called ‘ambitious’ project of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (TSECL) is  still under bleak as the city commuters still at high risk due to the deplorable condition of the over head power line junk at the heart of the Tripura’s capital Agartala.
