AGARTALA, April 30 (TIWN): Security measures are tightened across the premises of the local court as huge numbers of people have thronged at the local court to hear the verdict of the 12 persons who were found guilty in the murder case of congress MLA Parimal Saha. Huge security is deployed in the court to avoid the occurrence of any untoward incident after the announcement of the judgement. After 33 years of wait, Former Congress MLA Parimal Saha's family gets justice at last as Tripura High Court announced verdict in this long pending case. Additional district and session court on Friday announced 12 as guilty into the murder case and 5 acquitted among the entire 17 accused of the case. However, after swinging for at least 33 years finally the case came to an end on Friday and 12 were announced guilty into the murder case and 5 were set free among the entire 17 accused of the case. The source further said that, the punishment for the accused will be announced on Saturday.
The additional session judge court on Friday convicted 12 people under section147, 148,149,120(b), 307,326 and 302.
The 12 victims are identified as Shasti Chkraborty, Uttam saha, Mrinal sengupta, Pradul Sengupta, Bijay Kumar das, kajal Roy, Abhoy kanti Bhusan, Chinmoy Ghosh, Hiranmoy ghosh, sukhendu Bikash Das and sajal kumar Sarkar. However, sentence for all the convicted persons will be announced today.
It is to be mentioned here that Congress MLA Parimal Saha was brutally killed by unidentified assailants in April 1983 at Bishalgarh of West Tripura during block advisory committee election. The ruling Left Front, led by Nripen Chakraborty, was in power that time.
Immediately after the incident, police had launched a massive crack down at Bisghalgarh area and arrested 18 persons in connection with the murder. Of the total arrested accused persons, Investigating Officer D. Gautam had submitted charge sheet before the District and Sessions court, West Tripura against 16 potential accused persons.
Two chargesheeted accused persons died in course of the trial process. According to sources, the process of deposition of witnesses was completed long time ago but problem surfaced after death of the IO.
