AGARTALA, April 29 (TIWN): After 33 years of wait, Former Congress MLA Parimal Saha's family gets justice at last as Tripura High Court announced verdict in this long pending case. Additional district and session court on Friday announced 12 as guilty into the murder case and 5 acquitted among the entire 17 accused of the case. However, after swinging for at least 33 years finally the case came to an end on Friday and 12 were announced guilty into the murder case and 5 were set free among the entire 17 accused of the case. The source further said that, the punishment for the accused will be announced on Saturday. Following the orders from the High court the case was given proper attention as the HC recently ordered the additional district and session court to wrap up the Parimal Saha murder case hearing along with judgement by April 30. It is to be mentioned here that lower court has agreed to treat the copy of certified post-mortem report of Parimal Saha as evidence into the case.Earlier as a part of the hearing of the case, the accused were interrogated in the court under section 313. Former Judge Narayan Chandra Das, Dr.Nitya Ranjan Datta, Dr.Rajat Bhattacharjee, and Soma Ghosh have recorded their statement into the sensational Parimal Saha murder case.

It is to be mentioned here that Charilam Congress MLA Parimal Saha was murdered in 1983 under the then Left Front regime of Tripura.

With the change of guard in 1988 by the Congress-TUJS alliance, the police charged 26 individuals and put in a charge sheet before the High Court. The case was sent for a trial. Evidences and witnesses were also taken.

The case delayed for 33 years, due to the negligence from the part of police investigation team failing to safe guard the vital things of the high profile murder case. Earlier the public prosecutor said, all things gathered by the investigation team from the place of occurrence are very vital for speedy trial of the case. The things that are missing are blood stained cloths, bomb splinters, weapons used for murder.

It is mentionable here ealier High Court also asked the state government to reply why the murder case of Former Cong. MLA Parimal Saha has not been disposed in the last 33 years.

Congress MLA Parimal Saha was brutally killed by some unknown assailants on Agartala Bishalgarh highway in April 1983 at Bishalgarh of West Tripura during Block Advisory Committee election.

The ruling Left Front led by Nripen Chakraborty was in power during that period. 

The case could not proceed until 1988 when Congress-led coalition government came to power. Police had submitted charge sheet against 26 accused and accordingly the trial began.

The court had also recorded the statement of the witnesses. According to record, immediately after the incident, police had arrested 18 people in connection with the murder and charge sheet was submitted to District and Sessions court, West Tripura against 16 accused. During trial, two charge sheeted accused died.
