AGARTALA, April 25 (TIWN): In a bizarre incident, one died and about 10 succumbed to injuries in a road accident when a commando jeep turned upside down and skidded into a water stream.
The incident triggered huge panic among the people when the commando jeep turned upside down and skidded into a water stream after losing control over the brakes of the jeep at Garji block under Udaipur sub-division on Monday.
An official from Garji police station said that the injured are yet to be identified and are presently undergoing treatment at different hospitals. He further said that 3 were transferred to GB hospital and reportedly one died.
The incident took place on Monday morning when the commando jeep was heading towards Garji Bazar area from Tainami hilly area under Udaipur sub-division.
The source in Garji police station said that while giving a pass to another vehicle the commando lose control over the brakes due to narrow structure of road the jeep turned upside down and later skidded into a water body along the road.
Police is also suspecting that after losing the control over the brakes the commando jeep slipped into the water body. Police is also suspecting that driver was intoxicated and lost control over the brakes. However, the driver is yet absconding.
Road accidents-leading to death and injuries has become a regular stuff. Recently in a road mishap on Monday, one died and about 10 were left seriously injured at at Garji block under Udaipur sub-division.
Getting alarm the Garji police reached the spot and immediately rushed the injured to the nearby hospital and some to GB hospital. Along with police, local party leaders and others also reached the spot.

However, the victims are undergoing treatment at hospital, but as per the doctors there is least chance of survival for three of them as they are critically injured. Police is further investigating the case. The sources also said that with multiple injuries 3 is also referred to GB hospital among which already one died.
It is to be mentioned here; Tripura Traffic Police and Tripura Police Department have been facing a very tough time to prevent the number of road accidents in the state which are allegedly claiming life of several people for last few months. The numbers of road mishaps are alarmingly increased in the state for last few months but the traffic police department is surprisingly playing silent role instead of taking proper initiative over the road accident issue.
However, by the time police reached the spot the driver managed to flee and Police is further investigating the case.
